This message is to address rumors regarding the high school and our security. There are social media comments suggesting that the Pennsylvania State Constables are no longer in our schools. There are also comments suggesting student attendance issues that are simply not true.
To be clear, there are two full-time Constables on duty at our middle school and high school complex. In addition, the District is not concerned with any student currently enrolled in our district as a threat to student safety and security.
As a District, we will seek to find the source of this misinformation and we will pursue all legal remedies we can against those who would willfully spread untrue information regarding the Bloomsburg Area School District, our faculty, staff, administration and our students.
Community Forum Executive Summary
On November 30, 2017 we held our first school safety and security community forum. As part of the discussion during the forum several key themes emerged:
Communication and Access: Those present reflected a desire to have more frequent communication from the District. In addition, there was discussion regarding review of building access protocols both during the day and after school hours.
Facilities Review: A central theme of the night was the desire of those present to complete a vulnerability assessment of our facilities as we work to develop a capital project proposal and consider the role of security guards and/or law enforcement in our District.
Professional Development and Training: The need to develop a shared culture of acceptable behavior on social media, within our buildings, and with each other was evident in the group discussion. Establishing and implementing both clear policies and appropriate curriculum should be considered a priority.
Below please find a table that summarizes the key ideas identified during the public forum that form basis of the three themes identified here:
Our second forum is tomorrow Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 6pm in the high school cafeteria. All are welcome to attend.
