    Good afternoon,

We would like to update our students, parents, faculty, and staff regarding the school district’s response to recent security concerns. Based on our conversations with concerned parents in the last few days, we increased our law enforcement coverage of both the middle and high school buildings. Law enforcement officials are now on site and will remain throughout the immediate future. In addition, we will investigate the return of a School Resource Office (SRO) in cooperation with the Bloomsburg Police Department.

I personally met with all secondary students this morning along with their building principals to discuss the circumstances and answer questions. In those meetings, we reiterated our need for their help in reporting all potential concerns, including those found on social media. We reviewed the procedures for making reports, even anonymously.  We also discussed what credible threats are and how credible threats are different from inappropriate comments and actions. This afternoon, I met with all of our elementary students in each building for a more general conversation on safety and how to report concerns or fears to an adult.

In addition to these short-term measures, we would like to create a community task force to review district procedures and make recommendations for revisions moving forward. If you would like to take part in these meetings, please email me at  For those who have already emailed, we will be in touch within the next two or three school days.

It is obvious that our community is committed to working together to address safety concerns. We all share the same goal—to keep our students safe in school.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to address this matter.

    Donald Wheeler
