The Title I Parent Involvement section of the No Child Left Behind Act requires each Title I School to develop a written parental involvement policy that describes the means for carrying out the requirements of Section 1118.  

    At the BAMS, we stress the importance of parent participation and involvement in the education of their children. We ask that teachers work closely and actively with parents concerning the educational needs of their students. We encourage faculty members to become actively involved in school-community organizations. At any time, parents may ask for permission to visit their child’s classroom.

    Specifically stated, the policy at BAMS is as follows:


    ·         The Policy is written in an understandable format and is provided in a language parents can understand.

    ·         An annual meeting will be held to inform parents of the school’s participation in the Title I Program and explain the requirements of the program and the rights of parents to be involved.

    ·         Meetings and conferences will be held at different times during the day to accommodate the schedules of parents.

    ·         Title I funds will be used to pay necessary and reasonable expenses associated with parent involvement activities. 

    ·         Parents have been provided with an explanation of the school’s curriculum, the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress and the proficiency level that students are expected to meet.

    ·         The school will assist parents in understanding the state’s academic standards and local academic assessments that are used to monitor a student’s progress.

    ·         The school provides parents with opportunities to attend meetings and participate in decisions relating to the education of their children.

    ·         The school provides parents with materials and training to improve their children’s achievement and to foster parent involvement (i.e. team meetings, Parent/Teacher conferences, parent involvement events, etc.).

    ·         Parents are informed about school and parent programs, meetings, and other activities in a format that parents can understand.

    ·         A school-parent compact was developed collaboratively between school personnel and parents.  The compact outlines how parents, school staff, and students share the responsibility for improving student achievement.
