BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS
WHAT IS BIG BOTHERS BIG SISTERS?
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a national mentoring organization that matches youth between the ages of 7 and 14 with a suitable mentor for the period of one year.
Matches are supervised and supported for the duration of their match by a trained case-manager. The Big Brothers Big Sisters Mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships.
We currently have two types of programs available and the information is as follows:
School Based Menoting - In this program the youth meet with a fully screened mentor one-on-one under the supervision of a caseworker, for the course of one school year. Activities have an academic/social focus and include homework help, board games, and gym activities. The program is held after-school at Bloomsbug Memorial Elementary (for Bloom Memorial Students) on Wednesday from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Core or Cummunity-Based Program - This program is a "traditional program" where matches meet with a fully screened mentor in the community on their own time. The matches meet one hour a week or at least three times a month for the cours of one year. Activities are match choice, and can include a walk in the park, going to a baseball game, a trip to the mall or just hanging out at home.
